  • Flyers split a pair vs Bombers and Surf

Just when you thought the Flyers were starting another roll, they ran into a determined Bombers squad who had plans of their own. On Sat. 10/06 the Flyers traveled to Lakewood to play Bay Cities who were still without a win. Once the dust settled and referee Tubbs skated off the ice, the Bombers had earned their first “W” and while Mr. Tubbs was his usual mysterious self,  making calls that just didn’t make sense, The Flyers flat-out got out-worked and The Bombers put up a 4-3 win.

Jackson Winkler took the loss after posting the shut out a week prior in Phoenix, but his performance was not in question here, the team just didn’t give him the support he deserved and they underestimated how much The Bombers had improved since the 9-0 Flyers opening night victory.

Fast-forward to the next morning back up in Valencia where The San Diego Surf and the Flyers were set to do battle at Ice Station. A tired Flyers team began the game looking like they had played a tough game the night before and they were outworked for the better part of two periods by the Surf, but when they emerged for the third down 3-0, Christian Starr scored a goal four minutes in and they didn’t look back. “It’s like they got their second wind” said one of the Flyers faithful who came to watch the game. “They don’t even look like the same team.” He went on to say.

After Starr’s goal, he set up a second tally by getting the puck to Brian Voogt at the half-way mark of the period and you could tell that their confidence was back. Kyle Curry lit the lamp for his first as the new acquisition scored off a feed from fellow defenseman Kevin Lapp and it was all tied up. It looked like it might go to Overtime until Voogt off an assist from Curry and Reddick, scored to put the Flyers ahead for good. Jordan Nazareno got his first victory in goal and played well in the process.

The Flyers are now 6-3 as they prepare for next weekend’s single game on Sun. 10/14 Vs The Polar Bears.
