  • Hartly to take the reins at Valencia

The Valencia Flyers are pleased to announce that Chris Hartly has accepted an offer to coach the Junior A Team for the 2008/2009 season. Hartly, who previously coached the Eugene Generals for three years and amassed a record of 59-33, is excited to get started and arrived in Valencia just in time to evaluate the players attending the Flyers Prospect Camp.

Ryan Marvin, who recently stepped down as Flyers Head Coach for an opportunity to return to school to obtain his Masters Degree while coaching at Bemidji State, has left coach Hartly with a solid stable of returning players and a team on the right track heading into the 2008/2009 campaign.

Hartly played his junior hockey in the BCHL before attending Wentworth Institute of Technology where he made the “Team All-American Rookie Team in 2001 and played as a defenseman for four years.

“We wish coach Marvin well as he pursues his dreams at Bemidji State. It’s a great opportunity for him.” Said General Manager Larry Bruyere. “We are very happy for Ryan as he has certainly left his mark on our program during his short tenure here.” “We are also looking forward to assembling our squad under coach Hartly as we get ready to invite players to our main camp in August".

  • Head Coach Steps Down

The Valencia Flyers 2007-08 Head Coach has been tabbed as the Graduate Assistant men’s hockey coach at Bemidji State University of the CHA.

Marvin led the 2007-08 Flyers to the first round of playoffs with a 1-2 record, while amassing a regular season record of 26-22-3 with a winning percentage of .539.  Marvin has stepped down as the Valencia Flyers Head Coach to pursue an opportunity to acquire his Masters degree in Sports Studies while teaching Physical Education courses and Coaching Division 1 men’s hockey.

“What seems like an easy decision to most has been very difficult for me. I will be leaving my family, and some unbelievable players who have committed themselves to this program.  I realize that it takes hard work and sacrifice to chase your dreams, and that is why I cannot pass up this great opportunity.”

Marvin, will assist with video breakdown, strength and conditioning, goaltenders, and in game analysis while on staff with the Bemidji State Beavers.

Bemidji State breaks ground on a brand new multimillion dollar arena this fall and will most likely bolster them into the WCHA when completed in 2010.

“I am very thankful that I have had the direct support of my family, friends and staff through this decision. I feel very confident that the Valencia Flyers program will continue to grow with the solid core of players who will be returning for the upcoming 2008-09 season and who knows where I’ll be after I graduate, maybe I’ll have a chance to coach some of these guys again!”

The Valencia Flyers would like to Congratulate Ryan Marvin on his 2007-08 accomplishments and wishes him the best of luck in his future!
